Harry Rosen Presents: Breakfast with Jeff Rubin
Thursday, April 8, 2010
On Tuesday, April 6, Harry Rosen hosted the first in a new series of breakfast events for clients featuring a key business figure.

This event featured energy sector expert and former CIBC Chief Economist Jeff Rubin - also the author of the best-selling book Why Your World Is About To Get A Whole Lot Smaller.
We’ll be posting a video of the highlights early next week, but in the meantime, here are a few of the key points that got us thinking…
- The $147 oil prices we saw last year weren’t just a speculative peak, but rather a peek into our future.
- Triple digit oil prices are going to have an enormous impact on the way we live and do business.
- Although there is plenty of oil still left - the cost of extraction from projects like the Athabasca Oil Sands means that prices at the "pump" will be prohibitive to us.
- In a world of triple digit oil, distance becomes money. Doing business and trade with faraway places like China is no longer feasible - the cost of transport will far outweigh the benefit of cheap labour.
- Within the next two years, we can expect to see the Canadian dollar rise another 10 to 20%.
