Tod's Event - Saturday April 10, Bloor St Harry Rosen
On Saturday, April 10, Harry Rosen Bloor St hosted an event and trunk show with Tod's, which featured an artisan from Tod's workshop in Ancona, Italy - Fabrizio Vita. The event was also attended by Marco Giacometti, CEO Tod's North America, and Peter Tannenbaum, COO Tod's North America.
Have you ever wondered how much work goes into the creation of a Tod's shoe? This past Saturday, a number of customers at Harry Rosen's Bloor St location were able to find out.
It takes up to 30 days to make a single pair of Tod's shoes, with a team of artisans each looking after one aspect of the process. Fabrizio took us through the steps involved in creating a classic driving moccasin. We were surprised to learn that the holes for each of the rubber "pebbles"- that create the shoe's sole - are actually hand punched. Similarly, each of the holes through which the shoes are hand stitched are also punched out by hand. Each piece of leather that goes into the shoe is also hand traced and cut - no machines are used at any part of the process!
Witnessing the creation of such an iconic piece of fashion gave us a new appreciation for the amount of work that goes into this product, and we applaud Tod's for keeping these artisinal practices alive!
