Dressing for Calgary's late May cold snap
Even though Toronto is currently enjoying a heat wave, it looks like Calgarians are in for some snow this weekend!
There are still a few options available at Harry Rosen's location at The Core | TD Square to get you through this chilly weekend, as well as Calgary's notorious cool summer nights.

Brunello Cucinelli is a master of the art of layering, which is so necessary in Calgary's changeable weather. Take your inspiration from these looks (above).

Canada Goose offers a wide range to suit all kinds of cold weather. Above is a jacket that could get you through the next weekend as well as next fall. If you're after something extra-warm, we have a full range of Canada Goose options online.

Pictured above is a great option from Hugo Boss. This jacket is another great layering piece that will take you right through summer - provided Calgary doesn't get too much summer snow!
A Note from Larry Rosen, CEO of Harry Rosen Inc.
I just came back from the annual meeting of IMG, an organization representing some of the world's finest apparel retailers, of which Harry Rosen is the Canadian member. As usual, I was very impressed with how progressive so many of our fellow members are. Our Swiss member, Bon Genie-Grieder, is building state-of-the-art new stores and the American member, The Mitchell Family of Stores, just acquired the legendary Wilkes Bashford in San Francisco.
We spent five days in beautiful Berlin sharing the latest ideas about quality and luxury apparel and service. I must say that it's been many years since I've been to Berlin and I was really impressed at the progress made since the unification of Germany in 1989. It is truly one of the world's greatest cities, and our German hosts - the Rusche family, who own The SØR Stores in Germany - were wonderful and gracious hosts.
It's inspiring to be part of an organization of such like-minded, client-focused retailers and every year we come back full of new ideas on how we can better serve our customers.

Hugo Boss for Spring... 2011
Last week we were at the Hugo Boss offices in north Toronto to discuss the upcoming fall season. Yes, it is barely spring outside (especially in Toronto) and we are talking about marketing for Fall 2010.
That is not too difficult a concept to grasp, but somewhat harder to believe is the fact that all the gorgeous merchandise in their fantastically-displayed showroom is from Spring, but Spring 2011 (or 'Pre-Spring', as they call it - what used to be referred to as 'Resort')! Fashion cycles move quickly and we're always looking ahead at least six months or more.
Here is a tiny glimpse into what you might find at a Harry Rosen near you (as of next November that is).

A Photo Exhibit by Glen Baxter

We were invited to the launch of Glen Baxter's photography exhibit as part of the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival.
Hugo Boss on Bloor Street hosted the launch of Glen Baxter's photogrpahy exhibit on Azerbaijan as part of the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival. When he isn't interviewing fashion designers around the world for In Fashion and Fashion Television, Glen Baxter somehow manages to find time to shoot his own photography. Baxter spent one month in Azerbaijan in a remote village capturing the beauty of the landscape and the poverty of its people.
We couldn't help but wonder how he managed to get some of the intimate shots on display such as a woman crying, a confused child, and an older man in a bathtub. He told us he went into the hospital with his camera and asked the doctor if he find patients that were ok with him taking their photo. There was a huge anguage barrier, but somehow he managed. The photos were on display for one month and were available for purchase with proceeds benefitting Right to Play.
Jeff Rubin Ad Campaign Shoot by Matt Barnes
This week's Harry Rosen ad features best-selling author and economist Jeff Rubin. We had the pleasure of hearing Jeff speak last month at a packed event where he spoke to our customers about the future of our economy with respect to oil prices. Jeff's recent book - Why Your World is About to Get a Whole Lot Smaller - is a best-seller (and is coming out in paperback in the fall!).
For a behind-the-scenes glimpse at his photo shoot - shot by the incomparable Matt Barnes - check out this video. Jeff's ad runs in the Globe and Mail tomorrow and other major daily newspapers later this week.
We are giving away 5 signed copies of his book. If you want one, email scook@harryrosen.com - the first five people to email me get one!
Hats Off to You, Harry!
Last week, Harry was honoured at a gala fundraiser in Toronto at the Four Seasons. Plans for this event began over a year ago by a dedicated committee led by Cheryl McEwen and Larry Rosen. All their hard work paid off as the event was an incredible success raising $1.8 million to establish the Harry Rosen Chair in Diabetes Research at the McEwen Centre for Regenerative Medicine at University Health Network.
The highlight of the night had to be when Harry took the stage to sing an impromtu duet with crooner Matt Dusk. They sang “You can’t take that away from me” and the crowd absolutely loved it.

Proving the high esteem in which people hold Harry, many of the menswear industry's most prominent executives travelled from near and far to fete Harry - including Giorgio Canali, Benedetta Zegna, Claus Dietrich Lahrs from Hugo Boss and Massimo Caronna from Brunello Cucinelli. Other notable moments included Larry Rosen's speech about Harry "the icon", a moving tribute by Harry's daughter Racheal McCaig about Harry "the Dad", and a video montage featuring many of Harry's friends, family, colleagues and peers. The finale of the night saw Harry give an inspirational talk about the important stem cell research being done at the McEwen Centre and the overall value of volunteering and philanthropy - a talk that moved all 550 guests in the room, including the many associates and staff from Harry Rosen Inc. On behalf of all of them, we'd like to say once more - Hats off to you Harry!!
